Staying connected is crucial for humans. Both our mental and physical health is impacted by the quality of our social connections. Life expectancy is lengthened, health is improved, and happiness is increased through social connection. There is a positive correlation between general well-being and social interaction, especially for older adults. When enjoying independent living at Keller Town Center, seniors can feel connected to those around them and their loved ones thanks to advanced technology. Connecting with those you love is possible without leaving your own home.

Skype and Zoom
Both of these platforms have numerous similarities. Video chats, audio calls, webinars, instant messaging and more can be hosted and joined through both Skype and Zoom.
The main differences are:
- Up to 50 participants can participate in a Skype session vs. 1000 for Zoom.
- Even with no downloaded Skype software, participants can share and create a free meeting.
In addition to Zoom and Skype, some people are using Google Hangouts which includes audio calls, video calls, and messaging.
If you were to combine text messaging with video chat, you would get something along the lines of the video messaging app known as Marco Polo. This is great for seniors because you can send out messages and videos as well as respond in their own time.
Available on iOS devices, the audio and video chat app known as FaceTime is as easy as a phone call. When you can’t see family and friends in person, this is the next best thing. Group calls can also be facilitated through FaceTime.
